Other Discount Sources

Below you will find more ideas to find discounts and deals at restaurants and bars around the Central Coast of California. We will add more as we go along, but if you know of any other sources, let us know below and we can see about adding them to this site. We want to bring as many specials to you as possible. Use the form at the bottom of the page to submit sources you find.

Overlooked Discounts:

Remember that many, if not most, venues offer discounts for students, active military, law enforcement, first responders, and even let children dine free with adults. You can also order of a child’s menu. Don’t forget to ask about AAA discounts or check them out on the AAA website or at their office. Many other venues offer AARP, reward programs, apps, and membership discounts. It never hurts to ask.

Coupons By Mail or Other Sources:

Many restaurants advertise their deals by mail or advertisement. Here are just a few of the ones reported to be in mail. Watch for them, or ask friends and family if they receive any of these in the mail. You may want to :

  • Yelp Merchant Discount When you search on Yelp for the type of food you want, many merchants and restaurants offer deals such as 10% off, free side, or other special deals. Check these out when looking at reviews. Sometimes you get a discount or bonus just for “checking in” on the Yelp App.
  • Local Flavor coupon book/flyer has many coupons inside from local venues. You can access their website for more coupons, access their app or get on the mailing list to get their publication at Redplum.com
  • Val Pack is sent in the mail to households, and you can find the same deals online, or ask to receive their coupons. They don’t usually have many restaurant coupons in their mailings, but you will likely get other deals mailed to you that could be helpful.
  • SLO Coupons deals only with our area. You can find deals on their website and select by town or topic.

Half Price Certificates

There are some sources through newspaper and television affiliates that advertise deals stating you can get (for example) $50 in certificates for only $25 and tell you they want to pay for half of your dinner. Don’t be fooled by this. These certificates are not always just one for half price. The catch is that you may get multiple certificates, such as 10 certificates at $5 each, meaning you have to visit the venue several times before the expiration date(s) to get your discount. If you do not like the place at your first visit, what do you do with the rest of the certificates? Here are a couple sources for these:

  • Local Saver is one of these sources for certificates and deals. Many are very low priced, so it is probably safe to assume they are only one certificate. Read all details before purchasing.
  • KSBY Half Off Dining is through a larger “clearing house” for coupons. You can actually find many for other areas through this portal. It is also used by KCOY and other stations.
  • There is a sight called Half Off Deals that does not currently have listings in our area, but I provide it here so you can check for deals when you are going someplace out of our area.
  • Dealsaver is offered by the Telegram Tribune. Be sure to check media websites for links to directories and discounts.
  • Groupon has been known for quite a while now, and offers discounts. Many, if not all, of the certificates are a one-time deal you can purchase and use for the only visit. You might find some great deals there.
  • Local Flavor allows you to access certificates, but many are limited in quantity and can sell out quickly.

There are laws in the State of California regarding expiration and redemption of certificates. This may include a refund of your purchase price. I will post a summary of those laws as an entry on this blog. If you have any expired certificates, check back here weekly or daily for information.
